Info

22 September is a firmly established date in the calendar of governments across Europe and beyond. Every year, town centre streets close to cars and lorries, and open up for people to enjoy walking, cycling, street theatre, live music, dancing, public art and children's play areas. It encourages people to enjoy their local towns and cities without the inconvenience of cars.

‘In Town Without My Car’ day is intended to make people think about the effect cars have on the urban environment. Imagine how much more pleasant and safe towns and cities would be without the noise and pollution caused by cars. Part of the problem lies with the fact that cars have always been a feature of our towns and cities – we’ve become accustomed to the noise and danger! ‘In Town Without My Car’ day will showcase alternatives to the car – and the benefits that can be gained from using them.

So what can you do? All you have to do is make a trip that you would normally make using your car by alternative means. Locally that might mean walking or catching a bus. Or why not try cycling? You are warmly invited to the events that are taking place in Greater Manchester, and GMPTE can help you if you choose to travel by public transport.

It’s easy to plan journeys by public transport on ANY day and this year we’ve made it even easier to plan your trip. If you want to find out how to make your journey then simply;
