Equalities and Diversity
GMPTE strives to promote fair and equal access to services and equal opportunities in employment. We also seek to recognise and value the differences in the people we serve and employ. These differences include:
- Disability
- Age
- Faith or religious belief
- Gender
- Race
- Sexual orientation
GMPTE is committed to delivering fair, accessible and relevant services which recognise all communities in Greater Manchester. Our work on equalities and diversity aims to support those communities and to ensure we are meeting legal obligations and those responsibilities we have as an employer.
Our work is in line with the requirements of the Equality Standards for Local Government and we are working to ensure that all our policies and procedures are compliant with current, and forthcoming, legislation.
We also endeavour to comply with codes of practice and guidelines published by national equalities bodies and commissions, and engage with key stakeholders, customer, and other partners, in an effort to address all needs. This commitment is embedded in our corporate business plan 'Delivering the Vision'.
To promote equality through the services we provide, the influence we have as a key service provider, and as a good regional employer, we work in partnership with:
- Local residents
- Customers using our services
- Employees
- Potential customers, residents and employees
- Contractors, stakeholders and partners
- Councillors
Our aims
We aim to make sure that when we provide services, or take action, we do not discriminate in a way that is not justified. The information below explains how we do this and how we measure our progress.
It is important that our services are fair, relevant and accessible to so in our role as a deliverer of services we consult widely with all interested parties to make sure our services meet the needs to those who live in, visit, or work in Greater Manchester. This includes monitoring and reviewing services and policies to ensure that there is no unlawful or unjustified discrimination. On request, we also provide information in a range of formats, including Braille, large print, audio tape, by email and in other languages, and can provide interpreting where appropriate. To request documents in other formats or languages, please phone us on 0870 241 2216 between 8am and 8pm.
As an employer, we provide a safe and accessible working environment and we strive for a working environment free from discrimination and harrassment. Policies and procedures are in place to ensure that all staff have the right to fair treatment in their employment and working conditions. This includes having an equal pay policy.
Our commitments begin at the recruiting stage - we have achieved the 'Positive about disabled people' two ticks award which means we have to meet the five requirements relating to the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled people.
We encourage and support all staff to reach their potential, within the resources available, and provide equal access to learning and development opportunities.
Measuring our achievements
We set targets to demonstrate that the commitments are being achieved. These targets include national and local performance indicators and focus on key sevice outcomes, user satisfaction levels and the make-up of service users. We will report our progress annually.
We also monitor all stages of our recruitment process and, where appropriate, the age, disability, gender and race of the people using our services.
