Wednesday, 09 March 2005Plans unveiled for new Metrolink stop at Abraham Moss

Crumpsall residents will get their first chance to look at plans for a new Metrolink stop at Abraham Moss next week, when an exhibition detailing the proposals goes on show at Crumpsall Library.

The proposed stop - plans for which have been in place for a number of years - would be situated opposite Abraham Moss Centre and Crumpsall Library. GMPTE have recently submitted an outline planning application to Manchester City Council detailing proposals.

Before formally asking the City Council to consider the application, GMPTE has sent over 1,500 letters to local residents, businesses and community centres in the area inviting people to attend the exhibitions and give their views.

Michael Renshaw, GMPTE's Projects Director, said: "It has been our intention to place a stop here for a number of years, in order to improve access to the amenities at Abraham Moss, such as the library, college, theatre and leisure facilities.

"It must be stressed that, whilst there are no immediate plans to build the stop, we still need to look at the long-term future for improving the network. By starting this process now, we can ensure that when the finances are available to construct the new stop, people have had the opportunity to express their views, the necessary powers are in place and there is minimum delay in implementing the miprovements.

"It is important that we get the views of local people before we ask Manchester City Council to make a formal decision on the planning application, so I would urge anyone with an interest in what we're planning to either come along to the exhibition or contact our Metrolink Liaison Team on 0161-242 6789."

The exhibition will be in place at the ground floor entrance to Crumpsall Library at the Abraham Moss Centre from 8am until 8.30pm from Monday 14 until Thursday 17 March and from 8am until 1pm on Friday 18 March.

GMPTE Officers will be on hand to discuss the proposals at the following times: Tuesday 15 March between 1pm and 4pm; Wednesday 16 March between 4pm and 7pm; and Friday 18 March between 10am and 1pm.

Home visits can also be arranged for those who are unable to attend the exhibition but would like to give their views on the stop. To arrange this, or for any further information on the proposals for Abraham Moss, people can call GMPTE's Metrolink Public Liaison Team on 0161-242 6789 during normal office hours.
