Friday, 22 April 2005Free buses for Antiques Roadshow

People in Rochdale are being encouraged to take their treasured possessions for a bus ride on Thursday 28 April.

The BBC's Antiques Roadshow is coming to the town and GMPTE is running a free bus service to help people reach the town centre.

The valuation day is taking place at Rochdale Town Hall and free buses, which will be accessible for disabled people and those with pushchairs, will run to and from the event from Rochdale Football Club (Spotland Stadium) and Rochdale Cricket Club on Bridgefold Road.

The Park and Ride shuttle bus services will run every ten minutes from 7am to 7pm with parking at the sites costing just #5 for the day. The free bus service is being funded by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and signs directing people to the Park and Ride sites will be in place on the main routes into the town centre.

GMPTE's Operational Service Planning Manager, Paul Lucas, said: "We're expecting that the popularity of the Antiques Roadshow could lead to congestion in Rochdale. The free shuttle bus service will be very frequent and should make it much easier for people to reach the town centre. Wherever possible, we'd encourage motorists to help cut down the traffic problems by using the Park and Ride service to get to the event."

The Antiques Roadshow was last held at Rochdale Town Hall in 1991.
