Thursday, 26 April 2007All aboard for Picc-art-dilly tram stop!

A new exhibition has just been unveiled at one of Manchester's most public art galleries - Manchester Piccadilly Station tram stop.

The lightboxes at Piccadilly's Metrolink stop, funded by GMPTE, have seen a host of art since they were installed in 2004 and the latest display shows images exploring the environment around bus stations and tram stops.

Thousands of commuters and visitors to Manchester will see the exhibition from now until June. GMPTE Strategy Director Keith Howcroft said: "The lightboxes have been very popular and I am sure that the new exhibition will brighten journeys for commuters. GMPTE is committed to working with organisations throughout Greater Manchester to promote public transport and we are keen to involve other groups in projects like this."

The images at Piccadilly have been produced by Manchester Metropolitan University post-graduate students studying an 'Art and Environment' course.

Three images by Rachel O'Dowd are a play on the name 'Piccadilly'. Victoria Lem's photographs highlight the natural environment in a very urban setting.

Previous exhibitions include work from Ancoats Urban Village artist-in-residence, Imperial War Museum, Urbis, Gorton monastery and the Noise youth festival.

The next exhibition, 'Peeps' profiles new work from international artist, Dan Dubowitz and will appear in the Summer.
