Wednesday, 10 September 2008Wigan town centre bus diversions

Bus passengers are being warned that Wallgate Bridge in Wigan town centre is to be closed for set periods over the next five weekends.

The closures are due to maintenance work and will see the bridge close from 7am to 8pm on Sunday 14 September, and then from 8pm on Saturdays until 8pm on Sundays until Monday 13 October.

GMPTE is advising passengers that services 352, 375, 600, 601, 610, 621, 622, 628, 631 and 632 will all be affected, along with three bus stops.

Most services to Wigan will be diverted to follow Queen Street, Riverway, Powell Street, Northway and Newmarket Street. Services leaving the town centre will travel via Library Street, Rodney Street, Chapel Lane and Caroline Street.

First Manchester services will travel along New Market Street, Mesnes Street, Crompton Street, Riverway and Caroline Street, and Nightbuses will run from King Street West.

Passengers are being advised to use the stops before and after the diversions to get on and off these services. Information will be put up at affected stops.

Bus services will be affected on weekends from Saturday 13 September and will return to normal from Monday 13 October.

Bus users can check their services before travelling by calling Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 (Calls from landlines cost 10p per minute. Mobile and landline networks may charge more). Lines are open from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 8pm at weekends.
