Monday, 29 December 2008Comment on public transport in Manchester

Public transport bosses are encouraging people to come along for a chat in Manchester next week.

Leading members of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) will be attending a drop-in session on Tuesday 6 January at Victoria train station, from 4pm to 6pm, to talk with members of the public.

Staff from GMPTA and GMPTE will also be attending, as will representatives from the bus, train and tram operators serving Manchester.

Councillor Keith Whitmore, Vice Chair of GMPTA, said: "Greater Manchester's public transport network has been in the spotlight for most of the year as a result of the Transport Innovation Fund bid.

"We now want to capitalise on that interest as we reprioritise our plans for the future so we will be speaking to people about the buses, trains and trams. That's why we are going to be attending the drop-in session at Victoria station.

"I would urge anyone who uses public transport to come along on Tuesday and let us know how they think we and our partners might be able to improve services further."

The drop-in will be the fourth held in Manchester since changes were made to GMPTA's consultation procedures. GMPTA is holding four transport drop-in sessions in all ten districts of Greater Manchester.
